Description: I have here for sale an attractive fine leather bound edition of DEALINGS WITH THE FIRM DOMBEY & SON by CHARLES DICKENS. This FIRST EDITION was published in 1848, by BRADBURY & EVANS London. With 38 engraved plates by H.K.BROWNE plus the frontispiece plus half title vignette. With all the Smith flaws of first edition: Frontpiece has Capt. Cuttie's hook on his left arm, "delight" instead of "joy" on page 284 5th line from bottom, ain't has no apostrophe on page 14 on the 10th line up from the bottom, shew on page 40 instead of show, capatin on the last line of page 324, "if" missing on page on 426 Dombey and Son is a novel by the Victorian author Charles Dickens. It was first published in monthly parts between October 1846 and April 1848 with the full title Dealings with the Firm of Dombey and Son: Wholesale, Retail, and for Exportation. Dickens started writing the book in Lausanne, Switzerland, but traveled extensively during the course of its writing, returning to England to begin another work before completing Dombey and Son. Fine binding in half leather over marbled boards. Gilt title lettering to the spine which has 5 raised bands with intricate gilt decoration between. Marbled fore-edges. Board edges a little rubbed. Marbled fore-edges. Light green endpapers. Reinforced front board. Tribute to Genius Charles Dickens bookplate on the ffep. Heavy oxidisation on the plates and effects mostly the margins of the plates ( quite normal for the time of printing) this has transferred a shadow to the opposite pages, tanning and spotting on the margins of most pages. This book is in good condition, tightly bound with no loose or missing pages. xvi,[2], 624pp 22cm x 16cm.
