Here is a history I found online: The world of English potteries in the mid-19th century was one of ever-changing entities and partnerships. Here is the history of Francis Morley & Co which existed from 1845 - 1855In 1835 the Broad Street Works passed into the hands of William Ridgway and Francis Morley (Ridgway's son-in-law)By 1845 Morley became sole owner and the business traded as F. Morley & Co. The partners were Francis Morley and Samuel Asbury. As well as manufacturing in Shelton in the North Staffordshire Potteries the partnership were earthenware merchants in Philadelphia, North America.1852 Morley bought the molds of C. J. Mason, inventor of Mason's Ironstone China. December 1852 Samuel Asbury retired from the business and Francis Morley continued on his own account. In 1858 George Ashworth joined the business which became Morley & Ashworth. Minton & Co was founded in 1849. There were successful and a competitor of Francis Morley & Co. They had a pattern in the 1850's called LYRE because the central design on the tableware looked like a lyre. This offering is a Francis Morley & Co copy of the LYRE pattern. It is slightly different but very similar -~~ the central design does not resemble a lyre~~ the central pattern has a red border segment directly above. In LYRE, the blue border segment is directly above ~~ both have orange-red flowers with white tips. Even today, artists sometimes change a copied piece ever so slightly so the can sell it as their own. This evidently was Francis Morley & Co's attempt to capitalize on Minton's pattern hence LIAR PATTERN *****************************************Please note:Being vintage pieces, these item/s have been previously enjoyed and well-loved over the years. So they may have picked up the odd scuff or light signs of use, or marks that tell the story of their journey on their way to you. I believe it adds to their inherent charm and value. Everything I sell has being thoroughly inspected and must meet a high standard of vintage quality and condition; please check each listing photos and condition section for its own customized, item related description. I try my best to describe any flaws I can see. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Also, if shipping cost is coming out too expensive, contact me to get an exact quote!
