With the bookplate of one 'Miss Rigden' of St Lawrence to the front pastedown of all volumes. Stated to the title page as 'Now First Printed from the Original Manuscript' however copac states that there were editions of this work from as early as 1833 issued by Bentley. Horace Walpole was an English polymath. His 'Letters' have been of significant social and political interest. A fascinating insight into eighteenth century life and society for this antiquarian and Whig politician. CONDITION In half morocco bindings with paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with just some minor shelfwear to the joints and extremities. Spines have faded, as is common with this colour. Patches of light rubbing to the head and tail of spines as well as to the paper covered boards. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. Occasional light spots to the fore edges, encroaching on the odd page. Slightly heavier spotting to the first and last few pages.
