Description: Here's an early hand thrown redware pottery ovoid canning jar from the 1830s or 1840s....it has no markings that I can see. Redware with a dark, almost black slip with a streaky lead glaze......6 1/4"tall.....round ovoid shape with cork top collar that has a ledge inside.....footed base ring.....3 kiln furniture marks on bottom.....Excellent condition with only one small chip on side of collar and one small chip on base edge. No other damage. A nice clean jar. This is a scarce ovoid jar that would have taken a waxed cork or possibly a small pottery or wood lid that sat down inside the ledge of mouth and sealed with wax...FREE POSTAGE....NEVER ANY HIDDEN FEES THIS IS A FIXED PRICE, BUY IT NOW JAR FOR SALE IN MY STORE. .....Free postage only if you live within the U.S.A.....Shipping charge is NOT fully included in the price if you live anywhere outside the United States.
