Department of Ardennes.Dimensions: 28.5cm x 40.5cmNumerous signs of age: Water stains, foxing, micro tears on the margins and usual wear. Please look at the pictures. The Ardennes is a French department in the Grand Est region. Its prefecture is Charleville-Mézières. It is crossed in its northern part by the winding valley of the Meuse and the Chiers; it is in this part of the department that most of the inhabitants and activities are concentrated; Charleville-Mézières and Sedan are the main urban centers, as well as a network of small towns in the far north of the department (pointe de Givet). The department was created during the French Revolution, on Mars 4, 1790, in application of the law of December 22, 1789, from part of the former provinces of Champagne and Argonne, several principalities, including those of Arches and Sedan, counties (such as Rethel) and various territories attached to France (coming from the former Spanish Netherlands) until the 18th century. On May 12, 1793, the department was expanded by the Liège bailiwick of Couvin and the Imperial county of Fagnolle and on October 26, 1795 by part of the Duchy of Bouillon. The only border department in the Champagne-Ardenne region (with Belgium), it owes its name to a vast natural region, the Ardennes, a plateau deeply cut by the Meuse and its many tributaries, which extends mainly over the Walloon part of southern Belgium, but also to Luxembourg and Germany (Eifel) and, elsewhere in France, to the north of the neighboring department of the Meuse in Lorraine. Main cities: Charleville-Mézières, Sedan, Rethel, Revin, Givet, Nouzonville, Bogny sur Meuse, Vouziers, Furmay, Villers-Semeuse ...Professional in the sale (and passion) of historical and geographical engravings, I will ship your purchase with the greatest care as I myself would like to receive it.
