He held a senior position at the Quai d\'Orsay before being appointed French Ambassador to the Hanseatic Cities of Hamburg in September 1825. Under Foreign Minister Jules de Polignac in 1830 he was promoted to United States Ambassador in Washington, DC . Roux de Rochelle was a member of numerous scientific societies, u. a. The Société de Géographie , Paris, and is known for some of his cultural-geographical publications.
