In a quarter morocco binding with cloth boards. 'North Wales' is illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, forty-four plates, and two vignette heading illustrations. 'South Wales' is illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, forty-seven plates, and two vignette heading illustrations as well. 'Wanderings in North Wales' and 'Wanderings in South Wales, Including the River Wye' is a beautifully illustrated topographical work by Thomas Roscoe. Both volumes detail the history and topographical details of Wales' natural scenery, with tales from Roscoe's own explorations there. Contents mention locations such as St. Asaph, Corwen, The Glyder Hills, Pont Aberglasslyn in 'North Wales', and Aberystwyth, Harewood, Plinlimmon, Pembroke, and Swansea in South Wales.Thomas Roscoe (1791-1871) was an English author and translator, who began to write when his father encountered financial troubles. Initially writing articles and essays for a range of publications, Roscoe ended up pursuing literature as a full-time career. Illustrated engravings by Radclyffe, with drawings by Cox, Harding, Fielding, Creswick, Watson, and Cattermole. Prior owner's bookplate to both volumes.Collated, complete. CONDITION Bound in a quarter morocco binding with cloth boards. Externally, very smart. A few marks, particularly to the front board of 'South Wales', with some fading to rear board of 'North Wales'. Minimal bumping to extremities and spine. A bit of rubbing to spine of 'North Wales'. Pages are bright and generally clean throughout, with the occasional spot along margins, particularly to the first and last few pages.
