Description: Up for sale is an Antique 1830s Portrait Oil Painting of a young boy named GILBERT CODDINGTON that may be attributed to portrait artist James E. Freeman. Medium is oil on canvas. UNSIGNED. Measures 23" wide by 27" long. Painting has some cracking along the top right edge and the bottom left edge. The frame was lightly repaired and repainted. Please check out all the pics. I tried to take a few different pictures of his face as some came out a bit light but the colors are very nice. The artist really captured the boy's mischievous smile! He was either 5 or 6 years old when this was painted. Dressed in period clothing with long golden locks of hair. Here is a modern note that came with the painting: "Portrait of GILBERT SMITH CODDINGTON" Born October 9th 1834 - Died New York City July 16th 1900 Son of Jonathan Inslee Coddington & Mathilda Eliza Palmer married Emilia Norsworthy Stillwell in 1880, daughter of Silas Moore Stillwell no children" Buyer to pay $50 shipping.
