Size 5.25” x 6.5” overall Titles “ Greeks” From his series of lithographs titled A SEXY JOURNEY AROUND THE WORLD IN THE 19TH CENTURY THROUGH THE MINIATURES OF ACHILLE DEVERIA Achille Devéria was a French artist and lithographer. Devéria primarily painted in watercolor, but was most famous for his lithographic illustrations and portraits. Around the time he created these erotic drawings, he was appointed director of the prints department at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Devéria produced quite a few erotic lithographs, mostly of men and women. However, the novel for which he made these images includes several lesbian scenes. Specifically, the novel begins with the protagonist spying on two women having sex. Lesbian erotic illustrations were relatively rare during this period, as most erotica depicted men in bed with women. In addition to these frivolous drawings, Deveria created illustrations for Johann Goethe's Faust, Cervantes' Don Quixote, Charles Perrault's fairy tales, and also painted portraits of famous people of his era - Alexandre Dumas père, Prosper Mérimée, Walter Scott, Alfred de Musset, Honoré de Balzac, Victor Hugo.
