Description: I have here for sale a book entitled THE PAROCHIAL HISTORY OF BREMHILL IN THE COUNTY OF WILTS containing a Particular Account from Authentic and Unpublished Documents of the Cistercian Abbey of Stanley in that Parish; with Observations and Reflections on the Origin and Establishment of Parochial Clergy and other Circumstances of General Parochial Interest, including Illustrations of the Origin and Designation of the Stupendous Monuments of Antiquity in the Neighbourhood, Avebury, Silbury and Wansdike by the Rev W L Bowles. It is a first edition published by John Murray, London in 1828. It has a b/w map of the area and 4 b/w plates illustrating Bremhill Church; Seals for Stanley and Malmesbury Abbeys; Plans of the Church and Parsonage of Bremhill; and an illustration of the Parsonage. Half dark brown leather on brown hardboards. Leather very worn especially to the spine where only part of the title block can be seen and most of the leather is gone. Both joints are split so the boards are attached just by the cords. Turquoise endpapers with Cardiff Free Library label to the front pastedown. Foxing to prelims, title page and flyleaf. Prelims and frontispiece are loose. Foxing to last 2 plates and their adjoining pages. All other pages clean and firm. 285 pages, 22 x 14 cm.
