Retaining the original half titles.With the tale 'Ervina, ou la Magie, la Nature et l'Amour' to volume I, and 'Eric, ou l'Enfant du Desert' to volume II.The author's first novel, 'La Dame Gris', was first published in Paris in 1816.Another French language edition of these two volumes was published in Vienna later the same year.The amusing preface states that the manuscripts of the two tales of this volume were found by the unnamed editor under mysterious circumstances. CONDITION In half calf bindings, with paper covered boards. Significant losses to back strip of volume I. Rubbing to joints and discolouration to boards. Rear joint of volume I and front joint of volume II starting, with boards holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright.
