It is by John Cary as stated in the upper left margin and published in Cary's Traveller's Companion or, A Delineation of the Turnpike Roads of England and Wales, published by Cary in London, 1814 as stated in the bottom margin, a facsimile copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed, being sold as a single loose map as seen in the main pic. A very nice miniature size that would be very economical to frame.John Cary (1754-1835), began his career as an apprentice engraver and opened his own business in London in 1782. He would eventually become one the most influential English cartographer of the period. His publishing company produced many English county and travel atlases beginning with The New and Correct English Atlas in 1787, the first edition of his Traveler's Companion in 1790 and the New Itinerary Atlas, first published in 1798 and several world atlases including a large format New Universal Atlas in 1808 and later in 1815 collaborated with William Smith on the first comprehensive geological map of England. He produced some of the most accurate English and World maps of the period and would have a profound influence on the cartography that came after including Tallis and Crunchley in England and Henry Tanner in the United States who would use his maps as a basis. His sons continued to published his works as late as 1850. Overall, his maps are very collectible being well designed with intricate detail, clear delineation and beautiful color. Size: The map image measures, between the neat lines, approximately 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches (9x14cm) on a 4 1/4 by 7" (11x18cm) page as seen in the main pic.Condition: The map is in Excellent condition with original hand coloring, blank on the reverse. It is very clean with a strong impression and bright color that would frame up well.
