This humorous and informative work looks at various author quarrels throughout history. Some of the authors included are Warbuton, Pope, Addison, Bolinbroke, D'Avenant, Boyle, Parker, Hobbes, and Camden. This work could be considered a continuation of 'Calamities of Authors'. Written by Isaac D'Israeli, though his name isn't stated to the title pages. D'Israeli was a scholar and writer, who was the father of the Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. He was brought up Jewish, but split from the religion later on in his life. He begun his literary career at sixteen, becoming a man of letters and being in correspondence with many influential writers of his times. His most popular work was 'Curiosities of Literature', though he also wrote several historical biographies, and also published many poems. CONDITION Handsomely bound in full calf. Externally, very smart. Rubbing to the spines and extremities. A few scratches to the front boards of Volumes II and III. Internally, front and rear hinges to Volume III are strained but remain firm. Internally, pastedowns (both front and rear) and free-endpapers (both front and rear) have slight discolouration to the edges. Internally, pages in all volumes are generally bright and clean with a few scattered spots, more to the front and last pages.
