Description: On offer is an 1813 Napoleonic France bronze medal commemorating the Battle of Wurtchen, better known as the Battle of Bautzen, in estimated Extremely Fine condition. The medal is approximately 40mm in diameter. The rim is smooth with no inscriptions. The catalog designations for this medal are Bramsen 1232 and Julius 2635. The obverse displays a portrait in high relief of the Emperor Napoleon with the legend inscription NAPOLEON.EMP.ET.ROI. The signature inscriptions DENON D. and DEPAULIS F. beneath the neck truncation indicate Vivant Denon (1747-1825), Director-General of Museums under Napoleon, and Alexis Joseph Depaulis (1792-1867) as obverse-side medalist (F = "fecit"). The reverse features an image of stacked rifles as a trophy of victory. The legend inscription reads INFANTERIE.FRANCAISE - BATAILLE DE WURTCHEN. The exergue inscription records the date of the battle, XXI.MAI MDCCCXIII (21 May 1813) above signature inscriptions of the reverse medalist Brenet (Nicolas-Guy-Antoine Brenet, 1773-1846) and Director Denon.
