FOUR STEEL ENGRAVING ILLUSTRATIONS (PHOTO 1 & 3). -TONING TO PAGES WITH SOME FOXING. THE PAGES WITH THE STEEL ENGRAVINGS ARE, BY FAR, IN THE WORST CONDITION. BOOKS ARE TIGHT WITH NO SPLITS OR LOOSE PAGES WITHIN THE TEXT BLOCK. EACH OF THE TWO BOOKS HAS THREE RAISED BANDS. THE HINGES ON BOTH BOOKS HAVE SPLITTING FROM THE BOTTOM UP TO THE FIRST BAND (photo 9) AND FROM THE TOP DOWN TO THE FIRST BAND (photo 6) BUT ALL FOUR BOARDS ARE FULLY ATTACHED, THOUGH WORN, BETWEEN THE BANDS. With careful handling, they should not detach any decade soon. The spine covers are nicely decorated with maroon labeling of the volumes. There is a chip to the bottom of the spine cover of volume 1 (photo 2) You are going to need strong close vision to read the small print in these volumes.
