Hardcovers bound in early full calf with raised bands and with gilt designs on the spine. Spine titles read "Marshall on Planting" and with the 1803 date stamped in gilt at the foot. The leather boards are ruled in gilt and have wide decorative rolls in blind. The bindings show light to moderate wear and bumping but are quite sound. Several brief stains from early leather treatments. Hinges a bit rubbed on Volume I and with a little splitting at the bottom of the rear hinge on Volume II. The front pastedown in Volume II has a 19th century bookplate of "George Strode , Esq. / Newham Park, Co. Devon." No bookplate in Volume I. The text is quite clean, and the paper has a faint bluish hue. NOT an illustrated work.
