Description: Henry Wilson was an English naval captain who shipwrecked off Ulong Island in Palau where he made contact with the local elected “ibedul” who assisted in repairing the ship and sent his second son back to England with Wilson to be educated. Written by George Keate, this tale and others like it took advantage of the “noble savage” myths that were abounding at that time. Nicely illustrated, this pair of volumes has several foldouts including maps of the islands, various goods that were given to Wilson or traded for and several portraits including of the “ibedul”, his daughter and his son.
