FOR SALE: one (1) original antique etching / print on paper depicting an oval portrait of Nathaniel Chauncy, engraved by William Nutter c. 1790’s, after a miniature painting by Samuel Shelly. Original Sheet size: 13.5 x 10.5 cm. Print size: 8 x 6.5 cm. HISTORICAL CONTEXT: Nathaniel Chauncy (1717-1790), Antiquary and virtuoso. William Nutter (c. 1759-1802) was an English engraver and draughtsman. Pupil of John Raphael Smith. He worked exclusively as a stipple engraver, in the style of Francesco Bartolozzi. Nutter exhibited some allegorical designs at the Royal Academy in 1782 and 1783. Nutter's works are dated from 1780 to 1800. He executed plates after leading English artists of his time, a large proportion of them being from miniatures by Samuel Shelly. ————————————————————— Ideal for museum collection(s), private institutions, collectors of decorative collectibles.
