DATE PRINTED: 1784, dated on the print.SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 19 x 14 cm, 7.5 x 5.5 inches (medium) plus margins. ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Samuel Middiman from an original study by G. Barrett. Samuel Middiman (1750–1831) was an English engraver. He first appeared as an exhibitor of landscape drawings at the Incorporated Society of Artists in 1772 and following years, and in 1780 he exhibited drawings at the Royal Academy. He studied engraving under William Byrne, and is also said to have had instruction in this art from William Woollett. He was employed as an engraver by John Boydell for several years. George Barret Sr. RA (c. 1730 – 29 May 1784) was an Irish landscape artist who is best known for his oil paintings, but also sometimes produced watercolours. He left Ireland in 1762 to establish himself as an artist in London and rapidly gained recognition as a leading artist of the period.
