Description: The U.S. Mint released the 50¢ silver half dollar in 1982 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of George Washington's birth in 1732. It was minted in both San Francisco and Denver. Both the front design of Washington astride a horse and the back design of Mount Vernon were by sculptor Elizabeth Jones. There hadn't been a commemorative U.S. coin since 1954, another silver/copper 50¢ featuring George Washington Carver and Booker T. Washington.
