Description: Lockheed-Vega built B-17s under license and also adapted one B-17E to use the Allison V-1710 water-cooled V-12. The result was promising, but the Allison engines were needed for fighter aircraft.Includes the four cowlings for the Allison V-1710 engines plus the propeller spinners. Sand about 1/16” off the back of the spinners – until the diameter matches the cowling. You can see in photos that the slope of the spinner does not exactly match the slope of the cowling so that slight mismatch is intentional. Now includes a resin casting of the fake ventral ball turret. My guess is that they didn't want to waste a perfectly good ball turret on a non-combat test aircraft, so they just installed a hollow metal sphere. The guns are probably dummies. For the ventral observation bubble mounting ring I would suggest using 7/16" diameter tubing (not included)Does not include the propellers or the wing-mounted radiator opening between the two engines, which would be better made with sheet stock.I built this for the Academy B-17E, but it should fit any 1/72 model with the correct nacelle diameter at the firewall. For the Hasegawa B-17 you will need to cut back to the firewall, but the diameter is correct.Note that the nacelles should be oriented vertically relative to the ground, not the wing dihedral.See my other listing for upgrades to the Academy B-17 models for radio compartment and main landing gear details.Parts will be protected in a well-padded bag.
