Description: An Explanation of the Grand Mystery of Godliness; or, A True and Faithfull Representation of the Everlasting Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the onely [sic] begotten son of God and Sovereign over Men and Angels. By Henry More Published: London: Printed by J. Flesher, for W. Morden 1660..Hardcover in full leather binding. Both boards attached, but loosening. The outer leather is a bit dry, rubbed and brittle in places. The spine label is partially detached. An excellent candidate for restoration. Text is complete and in good condition. Not Ex-Lib.Henry More (1614-1687) belonged to that little band of Christian Platonists which was formed at Cambridge in the middle of the seventeenth century, and the distinctive traits of their school of thought are perhaps best brought out in his writings. (John Henry Overton in D.N.B.). He was fascinated by the occult science of such men as Van Helmont and believed in witchcraft, which he considered evidence of the reality of the unseen world. He was the only one of the Cambridge Platonists to publish extensively. First edition. Wing M2658. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.
