Description: Outstanding primitive and ancient 325+ year old iron mortar and pestle. Continental European. Crudely cast mortar with applied knob handles. Fantastic period hand wrought iron patch repair. Round sprue (casting) mark on base, typical of 17th century manufacture. Massive base and body wear indicates years of heavy use. The original pestle is a simple forged iron shaft with a wrought disk end. Superb untouched patina. Heavy pair weighs over 6 lbs. Remarkable that the two pieces have managed to stay together through so many centuries. An excellent ancient colonial period set. Mortar is 5″ tall. Pestle is 10″ long. Condition: Age appropriate wear. See photos. Small hole (does not go through) in base is a casting flaw. As-Is. Please use photos and description to determine condition.
