Description: Special Sets Are Stacked in Catalogue Order and Shipped Inside a Protective Case MINT NEVER HINGED 1973 - 1974 PERF. 10 REGULAR ISSUES 2017 BROOKMAN CATALOGUE VALUE IS $1.90 - $2.50 The Auction: This is a BASIC set of 3 pairs (6 stamps) FVF and MNH. It contains regular issue (definitive) stamps Scott 1518 to 1520. All 3 pairs are from the 1973-74 rate period and are perf. 10 vert. The stamps feature a mixture of flags and monuments, and pop art typical of the era. The conglomeration of designs was different from the standard practice of issuing definitives in one grand set. The coils mirrored the designs of earlier printed sheet stamps (sold separately). The 10c regulars met the USPS First Class 1 oz domestic letter rate from March 2, 1974 until December 31, 1975. Most were released in Dec. 1973 in anticipation of the rate jump. The 6.3c is the philatelic version of the precancel use and did not serve any actual rate. All the stamps are tagged and have shiny gum, which tended to yellow over time. The gum color changes could be independent of handling.
