Description: I have to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. THIS IS MY LAST ONE! Lindberg Models was one of the classic model companies in the US before the market shrank and was taken over by excellent and innovative overseas players. This is the immense kit of JFK’s PT-109, the 80-foot ELCO motor torpedo boat that served in the Pacific and was famously cut in half by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri in August 1943 near the Solomon Islands. It comes with everything to motorize it and instructions on how you could add RC capability. There are several of these listed on eBay (in various conditions), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship to you very quickly. Here is some of the info I found about this hard-to-find kit from around the web: The Round 2 company has picked up the Lindberg line, along with several notable others (like MPC, AMT and Polar Lights). Unfortunately, the Round 2 site makes no mention of this kit. Other sources point out the following kit highlights: § 1:32 scale, Skill Level 3 of 3§ 29.5 inches (73.7 cm) Long§ Motorized with all operating gear included:· Full Gear Train with Universal Twin Props and Rudders· Metal Shafts and Tubing· Electric Motor· Battery Box with Contacts· Requires 6 D size batteries (not included)§ Suitable for Radio Control with modifications made by builder§ Fully detailed crew (eight figures) included§ Movable gun mounts Scalemates.com has a listing that shows this is a 198x release (the box has a 2006 date on it) that is a reboxing of the new tooling from 1978. Aside from the fine box art and links to reference materials, there is not much here. Mark Smith did a solid First Look Review on the modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net site with an extensive background story of the PT-109 saga and an interesting history of Lindberg, as well. Apparently, he provided over 20 photos, but they were no longer available on the site. He does describe the kit contents and renders the following Verdict: “Overall, this kit looks to be a lot of fun to build, although not as a show-stopper OOB, but easily could be, with some added a/m work.” This kit is in an enormous, gorgeous box about 32.5” x 19” x 5.5”. As you can see from the pictures, the package is in great shape and still sealed with the original shrink wrap (which has slightly buckled the cover under tension), so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains one complete injection molded plastic model kit with many plastic parts, decals and instructions, along with running gear (a motor, props, rudders, shafts and tubes, etc.) to build a large PT-109 torpedo boat. It requires cement and paint to complete as shown. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays winning bid and for a limited time, this humongous and heavy item is offered with $20 Flat Rate Shipping in the US! No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions and listings for combined shipping. Good luck! Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder). As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
