Description: Ultra rare golden yellow tanzanite weighing just over 1.25ct, it has fantastic clarity with no visible inclusions(IF). It is a perfect solitaire sized 7mm round brilliant cut. The pleochroism of tanzanite allows blue and greenish hues to show from some angles but it faces as totally golden yellow. This gem is completely natural and untreated in any way, unlike over 95% of all tanzanite which is usually heated to produce its classic violet/blue colour. The vast majority of unheated tanzanite is a reddish brown colour, yellow tanzanites like this represent around only 0.5% of the gem grade material produced, only pink tanzanites are rarer. Mining for tanzanite is coming to a rapid end in Tanzania, of the 4 main blocks of land where this rare gemstone has been mined, only D block remains viable and being the deepest deposit it is the most difficult and expensive to mine. The majority of miners have now given up trying to reach new deposits. This year alone, prices of rough tanzanite have more than doubled and high grade finished gems are now selling for over US$900 per carat. Being a single source gemstone, when the final "D" block area is mined out there will be no new material available. This is going to cause prices to rocket to levels similar to what happened when the Argyle diamond mine closed in 2020. Diamonds from this mine that cost 500 before it closed are now worth 50,000! I acquired the rough for this gem some time ago so the price was more modest than today's prices.
