It was designed to use hexamine-based solid fuel tablets, known as Esbit fuel, which were invented in Germany in 1936. These stoves were commonly issued to German soldiers during WWII and were also available for purchase by soldiers. The Model 9 Esbit stove is known for its practicality and ease of use, making it a popular item among Wehrmacht troops. The zinc coating on the stove can wear away with use, leading to rust and black residue buildup from the burning fuel. Collectible originals are now quite rare and are often preserved by enthusiasts.
