He has a B.S. in English, and he scored in the 99th percentile on the verbal and writing sections of the GRE and in the 99th percentile on the GMAT. He started his career at Kaplan Test Prep, where he was a teacher and a tutor for the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, and TOEFL for 11 years. He also created verbal content for test prep courses for the SAT ACT, and more. Carriero then obtained a TESOL Certificate and taught ESL and TOEFL prep classes in Istanbul, Turkey, working with students to prepare them for American standardized tests.
