Description: Note number in brackets in title is just my inventory number. See my photo to see what kind of inclusion is in this Amber specimen. Combining lots to save on postage would be fine Burmese amber is around a hundred million years old and is found in the Hukawng Valley, a 14,000 square kilometer rugged area in Northern Burma (Now known as Myanmar). Burmese amber is of significant paleontological interest due to the diversity of flora and fauna contained as inclusions, particularly arthropods including insects and arachnids but also birds, lizards, snakes, frogs and fragmentary dinosaur remains. A hundred million years ago the area was a tropical rainforest and because both fresh and salt water species have been found in the amber it is believed that the area was near the coast with rivers moving the tree resin around. Animals, especially insects as well as plant material and leaves get trapped in the tree resin and gets encased in the resin where it turns in amber after millions of years. There is a wide variety of inclusions in Burmese Amber (More than 2700 different species are known to be found in Burmese Amber). I wouldn't expect anything rare in my Amber but all of my specimens have some sort of Fauna or flora inclusions so look over all of my Amber listings as you get the exact item shown in my photo and there should be enough variety for you to build a nice Amber collection of various different species. Burmese amber has been mined for 2000 years - mostly to be made into jewellery.
