Some ask why would you go to the expense of this and change the mirror like finish of a proof coin, statue, or artifact. The answer is different for most people, but for me it is simply, it draws out the detail of complex and art intensive designs. Take a look at any of my coins in proof and antique finishes, and I believe you will find that the design "pops" in comparison. So my personal preference has developed into the embelishments offered by antiquing. This does not diminish the value of the piece, quite the contrary, it adds value. I do not want this for every piece that I keep, but the coins which are in my albums and I show and admire personally, I prefer the antiqued over a plain proof.
