Description: British Mandate 1 Mil Circulated Coins Set 1927-1947 In 1917, the British conquered the Land of Israel from the Ottoman Empire and thus British rule over the Land began. In 1922, Britain was awarded a mandate over the Land of Israel and, in 1926, established the Palestine Currency Board, which was to be responsible for monetary policy in the new territory. A year later, the Board issued the first coins and banknotes of the British Mandate during a unique numismatic event, which was never to be repeated. These coins and banknotes bore the name of a territory which was never declared a sovereign state – Palestine. The coins and banknotes were still in circulation even after the British Mandate ended in May 1948 and remained in use until the new series was issued by the Anglo-Palestine Bank. A One Mil Coin was issued in copper on ten different issue dates between 1927 and 1947. This set presents coins from each of the different issue dates. All coins in this set are circulated and mostly VF condition or better. All are in their original state and have never been cleaned.* The images of the products are for illustration purposes only.
